In the very beginning, I just used the Google Translate screen keyboard to type. But honestly, it takes way too long to type longer texts that way so I just started using my normal (notebook) keyboard. You get used to it quickly. I also sometimes used the touchscreen notebook keyboard which was even more comfortable. :)
