About language partnership

Hello everyone!

I'd like to talk about language partnership here in italki, what it's all about?

Is it only for to collect as many friends (partners) number as possible or really will to practise and talk,

and increase the language skills?

I have noticed that nobody really wants to practise, some few persons only one or two times and after that

all ends.

Please everyone, tell your opinions about this, do you have the same experiencies?

Best regards from Finland

Aatos

Aatos,

it's funny because I've been talking to a Finish guy regularly, we usually speak once or twice a week, sometimes for three straight hours. And I also have another regular partner, but besides that all the rest comes and goes. I agree that there is a lack of commitment but also what happens is that sometimes there is no chemistry or compatibility, and when the person is not actively studying and bringing it's doubts do be discussed at some point we end up don't having much to say or not really interested in talking to that person. So yeah, it takes a while to find someone that 'clicks' with you to keep it as a regular partner and at the same time that is committed.

I understand how you feel. I think I already sent a message to all French people in italki (those interested in learning Portuguese) asking them if they would like to practice with me and all I had were a few conversations, cancellations and silences ... So I gave up. :'(

Good evening!

Yes, it's very common and familiar situation.

I can to add: I can't understand (and to perceive) how it's possible - just "practice language skills", without discussions of common interests, experience ets'.

People very often consider the "practice of language" as a question and answers, without real personal interest. Como exam of language in university. As machines for "conversation".

Often all this doesn't make any sense. There are a lot of websites with automatic microphones and programs-helpers, if someone needs "language practice", and not "in human communication in different languages".

Just my observation. And view point. Excuse me, if it was not in a  "right yard" :-}

Wish the pleasant evening to everyone! (we have in Russia a night already :-}   )

Most language exchanges don't go beyond one or two sessions, if they get off the ground at all, for the reasons Guyomar has given.  It's a gamble :  most will not succeed, but the occasional one will provide the reward that makes the search worthwhile.
