Do you consider yourself a self-taught/autodidact style english student?

Hello, everyone.

So, who here consider that is a self-taught english student or consider that self-taught learning is a better way of acquiring knowledge than a formal course/class with classmates and a teacher/instructor with a straight teaching program?

I think that self-taught language studies have many advantages for sure but I agree that guidance (with a teacher/tutor or a person with more experience than you) complement the studies boosts the learning curve as well, so I learned a lot by myself from "not knowing to say simple greetings" to start to communicate a bit at least as I'm doing with this post (full of typos, okay but is better than nothing :p )..

I'll start to take some classes with my first teacher from Italki next week and I'm excited to discover what she thinks of my actual level of speaking and hope to get some tips to develop as soon as I can..

And you, do your learning come from self-taught too?

Self-learning can be more interesting and give more satisfaction. You can meet new friends and focus on the subjects which are the most interesting for you. When you learn yourselves you don't waste your time like with classmates when you must wait for your turn to speak.  However, on the other hand, you don't know at which point you have the deficiencies of knowledge and if it is a good way you learn. Nobody checks your scores and if you need the motivation to learn more effectively nobody can encourage you to practice additional writing or speaking.

I'm studying by myselfe and I think the english school are good but if the student doesn't look for knowledg, the classes are in vain. Every all in life for you stay good is need much practice. I have my grammar mistake but I believe one day I will go to speak english :)
