You said that Egyptian use Modern standard Arabic just to read Quran, and that is totally wrong. you can argue with some Egyptian about the use of the MSA but don't tell Arabic learners that MSA is not used in Egypt, because they may take your information for granted. Almost every book and newspaper is written in MSA, and any literate Egyptian can read and understand them. Many lectures and keynotes are given in MSA. every country has their accent or dialect to use in their daily life, but they have to learn the correct spelling and grammar of their own language. A British person doesn't need to change his/her accent to speak to an American but they still understand each other.

I appreciate your examples but don't take some worker who didn't get the chance to get a proper education as an example.

please, stop telling wrong information. If you don't know what you're talking about, just stop.

If people can read it and write it, they can speak even if it's just to a limited extent. While Egyptians don't usually use MSA when talking to each other, anyone visiting Egypt whether it's for tourism, business purpose or any other purpose can get by using only MSA without any real complications and saying otherwise is plain false, and THIS is a fact.

Then I think I have two questions:
1. which language school teachers use when they address kids? MSA or dialect?

2. are kids required to respond in MSA in elementary, middle and high school?

Here in Egypt we study in MSA and we study Arabic (MSA). But it just subject we study and answer and get result after that we do not use it at all .After exam Arabic in (MSA) we speak Egyptian Arabic and never used MSA in our life just for studying or reading news paper or books. in speaking we do not use but we just understand it
