What is the meaning of these Gulf words/phrases? واي يحليلك

حق

غاوي/غاوية

Also - I notice that the demonstrative word هاي is sometimes used instead of هذا or هذه. Is there a specific time when you can say هاي or can it be used anytime to replace هذا and هذه ?

Shukran!

Hi Sara,

These wirda are used in Gulf dialect and their meaning are:

واي يحليلك= oh how adorable you are!

حق=it means for "possessive meaning"

حق محمد  it's fir Muhamed.

هاي = yes it's the slang of هذه، هذا we also use it in Iraq.

غاوي / غاوية=Sorry,  I am not sure about the meaning of these words.

يحليلك in Saudi is used to tell someone you're going to be punished because they did something wrong .

يحليلك is used in Tunisia to say " poor you", or يحليلي  "poor me"
(in countryside dialect)

It's worth noting that Gulf Arabic is broad and has a lot of variation. In Kuwait we don't omit the ذ in demonstrative pronouns. هاي is acceptable but not common. I've never come across the other ones that Hessa mentions. However, in Kuwait we also use هـ as a general pronoun:

هالولد، هالبنت، هالأولاد، هالبنات

We also don't have غاوي/غاوية.

يحليلك basically means "you're so adorable", but it can be used negatively to tell someone that they're naive or ignorant.
