Which verb is used more often (regarding food): to cook, make or prepare?
Which verbs are best used in these sentences:

They helped to cook the meal.

She is in the kitchen making a meal.

I cook a meal for him occasionally.

This dish is very quick to prepare.

We were assigned to prepare a meal.

She cooked a great meal.

I checked a corpus and found that the verb "prepare" is used in publications twice as often as the words cook and make.

I was surprised to see that prepare is used more often than cook and make, but I was even more surprised to see that make is used approximately 15% more often than cook.

I would have thought that cook was the most frequently used verb but in fact, the most frequently used of the three verbs was prepare and cook was the least often used.

All of these are fine as you have them listed. I would change, "I cook a meal for him occasionally" to "I occasionally cook a meal for him."
