Motive vs. Reason
Both motive and reason translate to Portuguese as "motivo", which made me think about the difference in meaning that those two words might have in English.
Is there a big difference in meaning? Is motive more formal than reason?
Thanks in advance for anyone who could answer my question :)

A motive is a kind of reason—it’s the reason that you do something. So all motives are reasons, but not all reasons are motives.

Reason is more about the cause of an action: The reason I am riding my bicycle is that my car is in the shop.
Motive is more about an incentive: My motive for riding my bicycle is to improve my cardiovascular conditioning.
