Well, remember that people say: "how are you!" a lot, when they kind of mean just "hello".. Tried to explainto the officer at the bordercheck about my jetlag, etc. when he was looking at my passport. Athough he was polite he did'nt mind so much of my flight-trip, etc., so don't let that fool you — even though people in common are very nice and open-minded, the culture is diffrent there. It will soon find itself out. Venice beach in L.A. is one of the most nicest and cosiest parts of the world. Lots of artists and other creative people dwells there. Hope you will enjoy your stay.

Don't go to LA xD. People cannot drive here. You probably will get hit by a car. The traffic is awful. Otherwise, good luck. I can barely survive in this state and I'm a native -__-

Knowing Spanish may help you quite a bit as there are many Spanish speakers living in California who are not fluent in English, at least based on my experiences there.

Keep an open mind.  Things are changing and California is at the forefront.  Beware the Zeitgeist.  Beware, and enjoy.
