     A  new word learned  can be memorized effectively by studying its  use in sentences.

I think that seeing the word in   three to ten sentences should be sufficient.

Just repeat again and again...

As Bruce said, I use to put unknown words in several sentences and memorize them. It is hard to fix the meaning of a single word that is out of context.
