"a gente" means the same thing of "nós" ,the only difference is that unlike "nós" you can't conjugate "a gente" using the first person plural, you have to use the third person singular.Some examples:
A gente VAI à praia
A gente GOSTA de música indie
A gente QUER uma mesa para dois
