I've read a japanese novel, but I don't understand what the meaning of the word (スタ) and sign (／＼) in this sentences (彼は又頷きながら傘をだいじに小脇に抱えて出てきたが、一向天候なぞ気にかけずに、スタ／＼歩きだした). any body knows? Please help me. Thank you. :)
I was not really sure how to call them in English... so I searched on the internet. These are Japanese iteration marks. Used to represent repetition of the previous character in writting.
We call them "踊り字" or "繰り返し記号" and I think "／＼" is called "くの字点" in Japanese.
There are almost obsolete in modern Japanese, though.
However, "々"(ノマ点) is commonly used today.
"々" is used in kanji.
For example,
人々＝ひとびと＝people
山々＝やまやま＝mountains
時々＝ときどき＝sometimes
少々＝しょうしょう＝a little
I guess you've seen "々" when you read Japanese writtings.:)

It looks like a ditto mark in Japanese to me and "スタスタ歩く" means "walk briskly".

I see, so it's a similiar mark like "々".
If this mark "々", I often see it. Haha

About read that japanese text, yeah it's really difficult but I do that in a common way.
Just with Ms. word to help me find the "furigana" of kanji that I can't read and a dictionary.
