让一部分人先富起来 let some of Chinese people get rich first

When we first heard this catch phrase 30 years ago, it sounded so good and reasonable that we thought most people would be rich later on. Now we realized, in fact, the second half of the phrase was “Then topple poor people’s houses and build golf courses for the rich people.”
三十年前第一次听到这句口号的时候，我们觉得它是合情合理的，便认为大多数人逐渐也会富起来是顺理成章的。到了今天才知道，原来那句话的后半句是，“推倒穷人的房子，给富人建高尔夫球场。”
