English Style For A Hot Day

I just saw this photo in The Telegraph. This is something an eye-opener for me. It is unimaginable for a Japanese woman to be directly under such strong sunshine without sun protection. We worry about skin damage from UV radiation very much. I personally started wearing long gloves, sunglasses and a hat or parasol in my hand, after putting sunscreen cream on my face and wearing a decollette when I go out in the daytime. I know myself this is a little too much. Additionally, I sometimes put on a surgical mask, and it which makes clerks go on alert at banks when I enter a bank. 

An eye-opener is an idiom, so it seems very strange to change it in any way.

Like Charlotte, I also had a look for the word. It turns out that decollete means low-cut, but a decollette is a cover for the upper chest area. I guess that's what you meant.

I have never turned heads with such a fashion. It is kind of sad but avoiding needless damage to my vulnerable skin is much more important than drawing attention.

I suppose that it is because weather in the UK is mostly not-so-pleasant throughout the year. So people there enjoy the sunshine when it does emerges, like these days in England where the temperature hit 29C yesterday, - the hottest day of their year. Yet these people seem very defenseless by exposing their skin to UV. Go under the trees' shade of trees, otherwise you would regret it when you get as old as I am. I used to sunbathe in French style, on the beach of Nice.

What astounds me about UK tanners is that they do it in a park.  I understand that sunshine is scarce there, but in Australia its unthinkable to sunbathe if you're not on the beach, or at least next to a pool.
