To learn a language by watching movies and listening songs
Hi, I'm studying to improve my English - especially my in speaking. Sometimes it's very boring to spend a lots of hours studying grammar. The progress seems to be a little slow and little. To enjoy myself I have started learning songs and watching movies. I have learnt many new words and phrasal verbs in this way, but I don't know if it is useful for my aim or only a distraction. What do you think?
It's seems to be useful to practice speaking when I am on my own. It's an alternative way to hear my voice and keep training myself on different accents.
Excellently written entry! I have found that simply having a conversation with myself is a really good way to practice because I have to be bother people in the conversation. Perhaps you will find this useful. Best of luck!

Well written, well done Marco.
A couple of times a week, when I'm walking my dog, I pretend I'm speaking to someone on my cellphone (so that people don't think I'm totally crazy!) and I have complete conversations out loud with my imaginary Italian caller. I'm quite an imaginative person, so I treat it as a proper conversation, and I respond fully and properly in Italian to the imaginary questions or comments of the person on the other end of the line. I don't censor the conversation by restricting it to subjects or words that I already know, which forces me out of my comfort zone and encourages me to widen my vocabulary. I recommend it!
