IELTS TASK 2: (27). Download copyrighted music and books. Please let me know what my mistakes are. Question: Modern technology has made it easier for individuals to download copyrighted music and books from the internet for no charge. To what extend is this a positive or a negative development? Answer: Nowadays, the Internet provides a space in which people could find their requests such as free books, music, movies, and many other entertainment or activities. In my opinion, although this advancement could be considered as a positive development, there are some drawbacks as well. Providing for people free entertainment, the Internet causes them to improve their knowledge and emotions. There are many free books as pdf or audio as well as music which one can download and enjoy them. Due to no charge and easy access, the number of people reading books has increased. This accessibility leads more number of people to be knowledgeable. Besides, there are many writers or musicians related to the past which knowing about them is impossible without the Internet and paying for them which is required different currency could discourage people to purchase them. Additionally, some new writers or singers, for example, are trying to be famous by sharing their works freely on the Internet which let them to be well-known easily. However, this availability to books and music freely has made several problems. One of them is that there are many websites which publish writers’ books and musicians’ works contributing the sale rate of them comes down. Despite efforts of those artists to earn money by selling their works, those are shared among people for free which is not fair and make artists discouraged to continue for new works. In short, it is not realistic to say this is a negative development while providing many advantages for individuals. The problem is people themselves who do not respect other people’s rights and share their new works which are in shops for sale. The development is marvelous per se, which not only make people informed, but also allow people to enjoy their lives.
