Unclear phrasing

Testing on Animals.

In 1928, by mistake, Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin in his laboratory. Some years after, other researchers purified the antibiotic and the first testing was realized with success in neonates with neonatal conjunctivitis. During the Second World War, sick and wounded soldiers accelerated the penicillin use.

Previously and after the Second World War, other drugs had been tested in humans but penicillin was an excellent example about a drug with luck, other drugs were tested with some success or failure. Currently, many things have changed and for testing a drug on humans, it needs to be first analyzed on laboratory animals.

Depending on the drug and the clinical phase, we have different animal models. International regulations force that drugs must be tested on mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, swine, monkeys, or other laboratory animals previously to being tested on humans - A complex but necessary process to prevent side effects on humans.

Currently, testing drugs on animals is a practice very common for pharmaceuticals. However, there are animal advocates that are against this testing. Some animal advocates have forgotten that drug testing has served to save lives. Personally, I support animal advocates when they are against the use of animals for testing cosmetics or other compounds without clinical use.
