Sanmao, the Vagrant: a wandering writer's love and sorrow 三毛：流浪作家的爱与愁

The following ten sentences are excerpted from the works of a great woman, Sanmao, is one of my favorite writers. In 1976 she published her autobiographical work "The Stories of the Sahara", which was based on her experiences living in the Sahara together with her Spanish husband Jose. Her husband died earlier from an accident, leaving her a widow. She missed him a lot and lived in a hell after his death. In the end, she hanged herself with a pair of silk stockings .Gone with Jose. I have translated some of her beautiful lines: about her reflections on her travelling experiences as well as her everlasting love to for Jose. Please enjoy & I look forward to better improved versions.

1. 不要问我从哪里来，我的故乡在远方。
Don't ask me where I come from, my hometown is always in the distance [or "far away"].
2. 心若没有栖息的地方，到哪里都是在流浪。
If the heart has no place to perch on [or "on which to perch"], you will always be a drifter no matter where you are.
3.我生命里的温暖就那么多，我全部给了你，但是你离开了我，你叫我以后怎么再对别人笑。
There is only such a little warmth in my life, and I gave it all to you; then you left me, how am I supposed to smile to at others again?
4.有些人会一直刻在记忆里的，即使忘记了他的声音，忘记了他的笑容，忘记了他的脸，但是每当想起他时的那种感受，是永远都不会改变的。
Some people will always be engraved in your memory, even if you forget his voice, his smile and his face, but that feeling for him will never change every time you think of him.
5. 阳光擦干了我思念你的泪水……
The sunshine dries my tears of missing you.
6. 在人群中偷看你的笑脸，恍惚间仿佛回到从前。会不会有一天我们再一次地偶然相遇，一见钟情，然后彼此相恋？
Peeping at your smiling face in the crowd, suddenly I see it feels like we are going back [or "returning"] to yesterday. Would be this possible then, that someday our paths will cross again, and we’ll fall in love at first sight and never let go?
7. 夜晚来了我还依然睁着眼睛，是因为我看见了你留在月光下的痕迹。
I still keep my eyes open even at nights, because I see your traces left under the moonlight.
8.今生是我的初恋,今世是我的爱人。
You are my first love in this life and you are the only love. [or "You are my first and only love in this life."]
9. 在这城市里，我相信一定会有那麽一个人，想着同样的事情，怀着相似的频率，在某站寂寞的出口，安排好与我相遇。
In this city, I believe there must be somebody else who’s thinking about the same thing and keeps the same pace with me; we are destined to meet each other at a lonely of station exit.
10. 每想你一次，天上飘落一粒沙，从此形成了撒哈拉......
Every time I miss you, a grain of sand falls from the sky and forms the Sahara.
