Kanji and Chinese characters
Today I had a weird conversation with a person who could not understand that Kanji (hanzi) are Chinese characters, that the Kan in Kanji is the same character as Han, which refers to the main chinese character users of China, the Han Chinese. I agree that there are variations in writing chinese characters and Kanji sometimes and some Kanji in Japanese have different meanings from their Chinese counterparts, but I thought it was strange that someone could get so pissed that I used Chinese pronounciation to read the Kanji in her name. Yes, they are pronounced differently, I know, but they clearly come from China... Denying that is just as ridiculous as pretending that 2+2=5.... And swearing at me to put one`s point across is not that mature. So, Can anyone give me proof that Kanji and Chinese characters are different?

你说的kanzi是什么啊? 是汉字吧。不过我学习了日文后,日本字很多来源于汉字的,而且好像都是繁体字多。更奇怪的是,有些日本字是汉字容易犯错的书写。所以我觉得突然间让我学习日本字,我很难接受,所以我的日语不是很好。我挺害怕将有些日本字与汉字弄混的。

There are lots of words with same meaning and spelling in english and french, but someone might also get pissed if you read his/her name in the other way. However denying where the language was from is ridiculous, i agree with that.
