Casser, briser, rompre.

Bonjour à tous, pourrait Quelqu'un pourrait-t-il me décrire à moi les différences entre ces mots? Le Tous signifient 'break' en anglais, mais auquel distinction comment les distinguer?

Casser, briser, rompre. 

Well actually they all generally mean to break, just like in english, with maybe some slight differences. 

Casser: would maybe be the most used one. So it means to break or especially to break in "several pieces". In a more familiar way, some people would also use it to mean "to break up with your partner" = casser avec son copain ou copine etc. You could even hear some people using it to mean that something is not working (but it's still familiar!) 

Briser: could mean to break in a lot of small pieces, like briser du verre ou la glace. 

Briser la glace means also to start talking to someone when you both used to be uncommunicative or something like that

Rompre: would sound more voluntary.. so it can be rompre un lien or even rompre with your partner (I would recommend this more than "casser) etc.  

It also means to break/seperate something in two pieces. But it's more used when you talk about a relationship or a contract for example (rompre le contrat)!
