A letter to myself —— My Goals for this semester Dear Sarah, How have you been? This is your second year in university, but I don’t think everything is going well. Due to a lot of reasons, you didn’t study well in the first year, and your English wasn’t improving at all. You know you can’t go on like this. In order to make a change, it’s time that you should set up some goals for this semester. I know you have always wanted to be a journalist in China Daily, so that means you will need to be excellent in both English and Chinese, and your writing skills must be impressive, otherwise no one is going to hire you. So your first goal for this semester is to make yourself a better writer! To achieve this, you have enrolled in a writing course taught by Taylor. In this course, you will try to acquire as many writing skills as you can, try writing articles of different genres, and start to establish your own writing style. Through your hard work and Taylor’s patient instruction, I think you will make yourself a qualified writer and thus make it easier for you to get your dream job. However, only some improvements in writing are apparently not enough. As I mentioned before, a good command of English and Chinese will also be what it takes to become a journalist in China Daily, because you will have to do a lot of translation works between English and Chinese. So here comes your second goal, to become a better translator. To achieve this, you will do more reading and writing in both Chinese and English. Of course, a huge amount of translation practice is a must. You will surely become who you wanted to be if you keep working hard! Don’t give up! Sincerely, Sarah
