Why I am on italki.

Hello I am Tahia. I am learning studying English for bringing to gain more fluency. I know this language adequately, but I feel nervous when I talk to someone in English. That is why I am looking forward to getting practice partners here on italki and reducing my inertia in speaking English.

The reason why it should be 'getting' instead of 'get' is that the 'to' here belongs to the expression.  The expression is "To look forward to", and it can be followed by a noun (eg Monday), or a verb in the gerund (-ing form).

I am looking forward to Monday

I am looking forward to finishing my project on Monday.

As you can see that the 'to' is there even when you have no verb following, it is clear that the to is a preposition and not part of the verb infinitive.
