============================================================

I think you might be confused with the usage of "합니다." and "이다"

"합니다" is Verb that usually could be used to express any action or behavioral or any feeling like "감사합니다. 사랑합니다. 환영합니다".

But "이다" (or "입니다" ,you know, in more polite way to say) is Verb that usually could be used to express states, situations, conditions like "형제입니다, 강아지입니다, 상태입니다, 상황입니다."

I hope that my clumsy explanation help you understand the questions. Thank you for having interest in Korean.
