Proverb.

Proverb : "Bad news travels fast". (This is correct. News is an uncountable noun, so we treat it as "it". Learners often mistake it for a plural noun, which is wrong.)
People tend to pass on bad news very quickly (such as accidents or illnesses, etc.). Any information about trouble or misfortune tends to circulate disseminates quickly.

Be aware of these verbs.  Information can circulate, and people disseminate/pass on information. Circulate and disseminate are rather academic words, so it's better to choose more "everyday" expressions such as pass on.

"John: Hi, Andy. I'm sorry to hear you got fired.
Andy: How did you know about that already? It only happened this morning.
John: Bad news travels fast.

We also call this phenomenon the grapevine (as in the song I Heard It Through the Grapevine) or, as we say in Australia, the bush telegraph. The news is not always reliable, but it travels fast!
