“throw-away” society This is a practice of IELTS writing exam. Question: Many people say that we have developed into a "throw-away" society, because we are filling up our environment with so many plastic bags and rubbish that we cannot fully dispose of. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? My essay: Disposable goods like single-use plastic bags are widely use in our daily life. There are some people argue that we have developed into a “throw-away” society. I truly agree this idea. The using of disposables goods has a great impact on the environment. Try to image that if everyone uses a dental floss or a plastic bag a day. How many rubbish will be thrown away a day? Nevertheless the fact is that we are throwing far more than a dental floss or a plastic bag each day. In addition, disposable goods are mainly made by plastic and wood. It will take a long time for plastic degradation and trees regrow. So disposables are truly polluted our environment. Other people may argue that we had the technology of garbage recycling. The rubbish can be disposed completely and if we use that we would not developed a “throw-away” society. However, we can not recycle all the rubbish though we have that technology. Not everyone can classify the garbage consciously. And developing countries may not be able to afford the cost of recycling. The costs of recycling are far more than buying reusable things. In sum, I hold the view that we had developed into the “throw-away” society. We have to control our desire of using disposables and use reusable things to replace it. For example, environment-friendly bag is a good choice to replace plastic bags. Plus, governments can enforce stricter laws to control the use of single-use-only things at the same time.

The use of disposable goods has a great impact on the environment. Try to imagine that if everyone uses dental floss or a plastic bag a day. How much rubbish will be thrown away every day? Nevertheless the fact is that we are throwing away far more than a dental floss or a plastic bag each day. In addition, disposable goods are mainly made of plastic and wood. It will take a long time for plastic to degrade and trees to regrow. So disposables are truly polluting our environment. Plus, governments can enforce stricter laws to control the use of single-use-only things at the same time.

Other people may argue that we have the technology to recycle garbage. Rubbish can be disposed of completely and if we use that we would not have developed a “throw-away” society. However, we can not recycle all the rubbish even though we have thtechnology. Not everyone can classify the garbage consciously. And developing countries may not be able to afford the cost of recycling. The costs of recycling are far more than buying reusable things. For example, the environmentally-friendly bag is a good choice to replace plastic bags.

In sum, I hold the view that we have developed into a “throw-away” society. We have to control our desire to use disposables and use reusable things to replace it.

Hello Yukii,

There are a lot of good points in this essay and it is generally well laid out. Try not to introduce new ideas into the final paragraph. You should just give your opinion and reasons from your writing.

Task response - about 6.0

Coherence and cohesion - about 6

Lexical resource - 5.5

Grammatical resource and accuracy - about 5.5

You need to focus on extending your grammar and vocabulary, did you check your writing before you posted it? Very often students can self-correct which can save them a few points. I also think you need a little more in the Intro and Summary.

Best wishes

Bob
