Learning English if difficult for me I've been learning English for 12 years, but i still couldn't speak and write English fluently. That make me so depressed.I can handle the final text cuz i can get about 80.but obviously that's not enough. All i have done was to pass the exam.I always forget how to spell a word or what is that mean.I want to speak English fluently. But i don't know how to combine those words to a sentence.By the way,one word has different meanings. How can i to remember all the meanings?Maybe i have to recite them again and again. In addition, I must get rid of the accent and the thinking of Chinese .Although I have so much problem in learning English.I will keep improving my English in order to get my goal.

Learning English is difficult for me

I've been learning English for 12 years, but I still can't speak and write English fluently. That makes me so depressed. I can handle the final test because I can get about 80 but obviously that's not enough. Everything I have done was to pass the exam. I always forget how to spell a word or what it  means. I want to speak English fluently. But I don't know how to combine those words to a sentence. By the way, one word has different meanings. How can I  remember all the meanings? Maybe I have to recite them again and again. In addition, I must get rid of my accent and Chinese thinking. Although I have so many problems learning English. I will keep improving my English in order to achieve my goal.

Hello Carol,

Your writing seems fine to me. There are a few things which you can do to improve it straight away. Firstly always use a capital (big) "I" before a verb - even if it is not at the beginning of a sentence. Secondly always put a space after commas and full stops (periods).

I think that the problem is not with you but with the way you are taught. In China there are many students in the class and teachers do not generally allow for speaking in the lesson.

You do not need to get rid of your accent, that is not the most important thing. The most important thing is to realise that English is a rhythm based language and not a syllable based language like Chinese. This means that English speakers don't give the same weight to each syllable (as you do in Chinese). They only stress the important syllables and 'lesser' words have a weaker stress and may (and often do!) change their sounds.

With your writing I would say, from this text, that you have a good idea of the differences between the structure of Chinese and English language.

Best wishes

Bob

Your English isn't that bad though! Its nice that you're determined, and I think that the best way of improving your language skills is staying in contact with the language you're learning. The more you use it the better you get is what I think.

Good luck on your further learning~

Try speaking English with a friend. It does not matter if your friend's English is not good. The more you speak the easier it will become. Try watching short films and telling the story.
