Hi Yun, If you mean a teach or professor at a high school or university, I would say that it would sound a bit strange. Saying "you have done a good job" sounds like something you would say to a coworker, another student, or someone else with the same level of authority. You could also say it to someone working for you, someone you are teaching, or someone else with a lower level of authority. When said to a teacher, even if it's meant as a compliment, it's like you were judging or evaluating them directly, which is something that okay to do to someone in the same or lower position as you, but is too casual to do to a teacher. It's hard to explain, but when you compliment the lesson instead of the teacher, you keep the student-teacher relationship the way it is. Instead of judging them, you are appreciating their work. It sounds more natural to me to say something like: "Thank you for the lesson today, it was very informative." "Thank you for today, I feel like I learned a lot." "I really liked today's presentation!" However, this is just my experience in schools in Canada. Other people in other English-speaking countries (or other parts of Canada) might have other experiences. I hope this helps :)

I'm from the UK and agree with Jonathan. It would sound wrong. "You've done a good job" is something the teacher could say to you. Saying it to the teacher upsets the power dynamic of the teacher-student relationship 🙂

I'm from the US, and I also agree with Jonathan. I like his suggestion about complimenting the lesson or class instead of the teacher. Something like "I really enjoyed today's lesson" would sound fine.
