.....Will you tell mom tomorrow we eat/ate ice cream today?.... My wife doesn't like my sons to eat ice cream. One day, she was not home, so I took them to an ice cream shop. While we were having ice cream, I asked them this question, "Will you tell Mom tomorrow we ate ice cream today?" Somehow I feel it's strange because the next day, when my wife came home, the whole ice cream eating thing was in the past. But we were eating that when I asked the question. Using the past tense was strange as well. 1. Will you tell Mom tomorrow we EAT ice cream today? 2. Will you tell Mom tomorrow we ATE ice cream today? Which one sounds better? How would you ask the question? Thank you. :)

‘Ate’ is correct. In fact, ‘eat’ is incorrect even if you are talking about the present. For example, you should say: ‘Mom is on the phone. Don’t tell her that we are eating ice cream.’ (Not ‘eat’)
