On her way to the nearby store, she bumped into a neighbor who, guessing that she was going to the store, told her that it was closed. "Oh!" she said, surprised. She thanked (him/them) and turned around to head to the main street because the next store near her house was about nine blocks away, straight down on the main street. She went thinking, "How did I not remember (this/it) earlier?" Finally, she reached the store and said, "Yes, it's still open!" She bought what she wanted and turned around to head back home. All of a sudden, her phone rang. She answered the call and it was her mom inviting her to dinner together. As her mom's house was on her way home, she accepted and went there.
