What does 'run out of steam' mean here? So, pace yourself - work more slowly. Don’t run out of steam before you get to the top!

Run out of steam = Run out of energy. When trains were pulled by steam engines, when the engine ran out of coal, there would be no more steam - it had run out of steam (actually, coal, but 'steam' just sounded better.)
