Do we "do powerlifting" or "go powerlifting", "play golf" or "go golfing"? Everything was clear as far as using "go" "do" or "play" was concerned. But I came across some difficult moments. I watched on the youtube the EngVid lesson where a lady told about "go golfing" I thought only "play golf". She also told that we should use "go" with the words that has -ing form at the end. Then what about "do powerlifting" we should use "go powerlifting"?

Both "play golf" and "go golfing" are correct. If you're inviting a friend, you're more likely to say, "Let's go golfing on Sunday." If you were telling someone about your hobbies, you would probably say, "I like to play golf." Same thing for powerlifting.

This might clear it up a little... Use "do powerlifting" and "play golf" to mean the basic verb-activity collocation. When we say "go powerlifting" and "go golfing", we mean "go to do powerlifting" and "go to play golf".
