Look for - Is when you search or locate/discover someone or something.
Example: " I'm looking for my wallet. "
Look Up - Is when you seek information basically.
Example: " Try looking up on the Internet for the recipe"
Hope that helps. :)

Here's a simple answer:
You look FOR something when the question is, "Where is it?"
Where's my phone? I looked FOR it in the living room but it wasn't there.
You look UP something when the question is, "What is it?"
A What's the capital of Sweden?
B I don't know. Let's look it UP online.
