bato: means stone
nakaka + bato = nakakabato
(Literally, it means "something that causes you to feel/become like a stone.")
(In the Tagalog, it does refer to "boredom over something.")

Sometimes I wonder about the origin of the word "nakakabato". Could it be related to the american slang word "to be stoned" (i.e.-high on drugs or other intoxicating substances)?

"Nakakabato doon." is translated "It's boring there."
"Nakakabato doon banda." is translated "It's boring over there." and you usually say this to point to a far place that you can see at sight.
