How to pronouce "쉬" in Korean? How to pronouce "쉬" as in "쉽다"?" I listened to a few recordings and it actually sounds like "시" only, with the "sh" English sound, and not "swee" as I thought it would be. Perhaps it's in fact a very fast "shwee"? Thanks in advance!I did further investigations, I checked the wiktionary, and apparently there would be two ways of saying it, like "shi" and "swee", and the first one seems to be the most common form of pronounciation.

Yes, that's right. :) "shipda" is how we say it.

Hmm you won't be notified of my answer if I write it here (I think), but I just want to say that I don't have trouble with the "시" sound. I know that English sounds aren't perfectly equivalent to the Korean pronunciations, but I still refered to them because it's usually what people can understand. Okay, so you're saying it's like a fast "shwee". The only pronounciation rules I saw weren't mentionning it, but the list in my learning book was surely not exhaustive. All I knew was that ㅅin front of ㅣmade it into a "shee" sound, so it surprised me when "쉬" also had a "sh-" in it. Thank you very much.

The pronunciation of "쉬" is very similar to short "shwee" in English, while "시" is more like "she". As a matter of fact, "시" is more difficult to pronounce accurately because it is "she" with slight tone of "see". It sounds "shallower" than English "she". But "쉬" is almost same as short "shwee" in pronunciation. A "swee" is used only for writing purpose, and doesn't represent the pronunciation correctly.
