In South Africa we use Lawyer and Attorney too. Solicitor is more commonly used in the UK. In SA we also have an Advocate who would instruct the Lawyer/Attorney.

Barrister - A lawyer who is typically advised by a solicitor but argues the case in a courtroom. Typically, barrister demand higher fees than a solicitor. In some jurisdictions, lawyers may be both solicitor and barrister but typically they differ. In Australia, if you used the term attorney, you would be referring to a solicitor. That may not be the case in America.
