I've just come across the phrase 'je voudrais voir autre chose'. Does the phrase 'autre chose' work in this way without an article, 'la' or 'une'?

If so, does it work in the same way with sentences like 'je ne veux pas de cafe, je voudrais autre chose,' also without an article?
