Is there a difference between Make a bet vs make bets? "make[place, take] a bet" Is the same I think. But I saw the sentence Leaders of large businesses sometimes "make huge bets" in expensive mergers and acquisitions. When I look the word, bet in the dictionary, I can see make A BET not make BETS. Is there a difference between Make a bet vs make bets?

I want to make a bet please. I like to make bets at John Bells betting shop. If you make bets all the time you will have no money. Try and make smaller bets rather than large bets then you may have more luck.
