Hi, I'd keep a vocab list & go over it every night. Karaoke is also a great way to learn new words too as you have to read the lyrics & sing them as well.

yeah reading is the best way, you can try listening to songs and shows too, sometimes they use words that are not commonly used in daily life. but for reading, start off with short articles/stories first then go on to books. it can be stories, non-fiction, anything that interests you.
the other way, flip through the dictionary. you can start from A to Z but thats REALLY boring. or else, do random flips. open the dictionary and find out the meaning of any word that catches your eye. whichever, overtime you'll improve =]

I'd like to add that when reading stuff it's sometimes possible to guess the meaning of a word without looking it up. If you do this often enough you will find that you actually don't even have to look up those words. So just keep reading, try to get your hands on English/American newspapers and just keep checking sites like bbc.co.uk and cnn.com.
Good luck!

Read, read, read. Read from sources that you feel are above your comprehension level, and when you come to a word you do not recognize--look it up.
