is it that you use de when the word starts with a vowel? Like difficle à savoir and difficile d'apprendre?

There is no easy rule, just lots to learn by heart. At your level, I wouldn't on this problem yet, the ratio stress versus utility is disproportionate. Wait until you are more comfortable with verbs.
