什么是'喝西北风'? What does this expression mean if it has a meaning beyond its literal translation? Not sure if I am reading it right. There is no reference to it in the dictionary. I presume it is something to do with financial ruin.

They all got it...I use this when I want to explain that someone has no money and will find it hard to live, for e.g. 找不到工作只能喝西北风

这是用来形容某些人好吃懒做,春天不去播种,秋天不去收割,整天不做事情。 当冬天到来的时候,就没有饭吃了,只好去喝西北风。 其实西北风又不是汤和酒,当然是不能喝的。在中国,刮西北风的时候通常是冬天。 这个种表达只是为了说明,忙的时候不去努力,闲的时候就没有饭吃。形容人懒。
