I hate 'd 1. I'd got to a resonably senior level and I wanted to help other people to maximise their potential. 2. We couldn't find anything for people with no experience. So we thought we'd start our own. the first 'd means had the second 'd means should you know, when I read these phrases, when I meet 'd. I have to pause in my mind and continue the rest, and then go back and think what does this 'd mean. It's not easy. So I hate 'd.

The first sentence contains an error. It should read "I'd gotten to a..." The first contraction is "I had". The second is actually "we would". It is an intention and is therefore written in the subjunctive.
