Difference between 라고 생각해요 and 다고 생각해요

I am a little confused about the difference about these two endings.
Examples:

음계는 음악의 기초라고 생각합니다.

김치전은 맵지 않다고 생각했어요.

Is 라고 for attaching to nouns and 다고 for verbs?

Answer

if the word is noun then we use '라고'.(or 이라고)
if the word is adjective or verb we use'다고'.
기초 = basis : noun.
