I could understand you most of the time, so there were a few parts where I had to rewind to catch what was said. I realise this comes from reading from a script instead of speaking naturally, but it would be helpful if you paused a little between sentences. Sometimes you started a new sentence without me realising the old one had finished! You sounded much more natural when you said "Hi, I'm going to read Mice and Council". Normally I would advise learners not to try to say "gonna", but you did it very naturally without any weird emphasis. Well done! Here are some mistakes I picked up: -"Council" sounds like "consul". -You skipped the "i" in "terrifying". Try to also put slightly more emphasis on the "e", because right now it sounds like a schwa. -You said "live" like "leave". -The way you said "scampering" sounds like "scambering". -The sound in between "mice spoke" sounded like a "z", when it should be a "s" sound. -"Plan" sounded like "blan". -"Boastful" sounded like "bustful". -"Bell" sounded like "bill". -"His" sounds like "he's". "His" should have the short "i" sound from "it". -The "pp" in "approach" sounded like "b", the "oa" sounds like "aw" (it should have the same vowel as "no"), and the "ch" sounded like a mix between "ch" and "j". -"Attached to" sounded like "attach it to". -"...to think of a plan like that! But, now tell us..." was very hard to understand. Try to speak speak a little slower! -The "t" in "sat down" sounded like a "d". I think it would sound just like the word "sad" in accents without the bad-lad split (although to my ear it sounds like neither "sat" or "sad"). -You said "said" with the vowel in "say", instead of the vowel in "red". -These aren't pronunciation errors, but you said "in the kitchen" and "bell on that cat" where the script I'm reading says "into the kitchen" and "bell on the cat" respectively.

Your accent is still sounding Egyptian not American or British. But it does lean more towards the American accent than it does to he British. I agree that it was difficult to hear the words because you read this without any pausing. Did you even breathe? Try to read it again more slowly and pause at the punctuation marks. There should be a pause at each comma and a slightly longer pause at each period. I would try to do it again and repost forus to listen.

Mohamed, thanks for being a good sport and recording yourself! :) I'll just try to add a few more points to the other comments... Yes, the biggest issue is your pacing, and by the end you were rushing and mumbling words. There are a few methods you can use to slow yourself down, but in your next recording, try to tackle that without help. :) Another issue - and this is exactly what makes you sound foreign - is that your phrasing, rhythm and intonation are non-native. I guess you're still following habits from speaking your first language, so if you want to sound a little more natural in English, you need to identify and drop these Arabic habits and add a few English habits. (I should add that we can still understand you quite well, even with your foreign accent.) You can hear in the recordings by Jean and me that we connect certain words together in phrases, and that we seem to follow a kind of timing in our rhythm. You'll also hear how the pitch of our voice shifts up or down when we reach the ends of phrases, or when we encounter punctuation. Even though our accents are clearly different (as an Australian, my accent is fairly clean and neutral), both of our recordings are clear and easy to listen to.
