Question
Hi, there
Could you help me with a few questions?
1) Does it sound odd to say "slack off on diet"?
2) If someone distract you while you are talking to a waiter, for example, placing your order, or if you are doing your homework, could you say "Don't mess me up"? of "Don't trip me up" "Don't throw me off"? What would you say? None?
3) Do you say "for" or "from" a subject, class? or neither?
(A mom talking to her son):"What subject/class do you have homework for/from today?"
"What subject/class is this notebook for/from?
4) Do you say "Don't turn the ventilator/fan way up" or "Don't turn the ventilator too far up"? Or neither?
Thank you!

1. In what context will you use it? It would depend on that.
2. I think you can just say, "hold on a sec" to let the other person know you are talking to someone without sounding rude.
3. Which subject do you have homework for today? Which subject is this notebook for?
4. Either is understandable but if you want to be more grammatically correct the second one is better.
