Difference How can I explain between like "He gets wet" and "He is wet" "She gets hot" and She is hot and so on. I think it is kind of matter of nuances right? however I don't know how to explain it to my esl student(elementary) in English. Any comments would be appreciated!

"Get wet/ get hot" etc. suggests a ongoing action, and may not have reached its final conclusion. But if its "Is wet/ is hot etc." it means the action has passed, and the result is still ongoing. But unfortunately, you've reached the limits of my explanation. I can only say it is a difference between present and past actions. I hope someone can explain a little more.

Hi there! to 'get wet' is the process of becoming wet. to 'be wet' is the result. 'He is getting wet' - He is in the process of going from dry to wet 'He is wet' - The process is complete If we look at these 2 sentences: 'Don't go out in the rain because you will GET wet' 'Don't go out in the rain because you will BE wet' Here the first sentence is better because when you go out in the rain you won't BE wet immediately, you will first go through a process of becoming wet. This use of 'get + adjective' is very common in English, I always tell my students that it is a much better alternative to 'become'. I also always use this example: 'I enjoy getting drunk' - I enjoy the process of slowly drinking with all the different stages 'I enjoy being drunk' - I enjoy the final result Of course only use that example with adults ;) Hope this helps!

He gets wet would be spraying someone with a hose = that person is getting wet = they were dry now are being made wet He is wet = is like just getting out of the pool.. he's all wet and doesn't want to get in the car because he's wet.

You don't want to get wet and catch a cold, so take this umbrella with you. The weather is sure to be wet.
