What does "throwing the party" mean, please? Hi everyone, Could you tell me the meaning of "throwing the party" in this sentence below? Oh I just want to add, if you want to use another word for 'throwing' in your sentance, 'giving' or 'having' is a good choice. giving a party or having a party.

Neal is right. "to throw a party" is just another way to say 'have a party.' The person saying the expression is usally going to be the party's host.
