在这个句子里 “ 害 ” 就是 “ 让 ”、“ 使 ” 的意思,用来表达不好的事情。再举个例子:为了赶火车,差点儿害我丢了重要文件。

這句話裡面的害等於使得、讓人...的意思,後面通常會加不好的結果 害 in this sentence means let/ made in English. There is always a negative thing in this sentence.

害,表面上看可以理解成“使,让,叫,致使,招致”等等,其实上面的任何词都不能与害互换,换了之后含义会发生改变。 害的意思并不太好说清楚。害是有程度之分的,严重可以到“害死”,轻可以只是无关痛痒的小事。 多看些例子吧。害强调某人的行为,某事的发生招致了另一件事的发生,根据程度,如果件另人不愉快的事,害的使用就带有责怪的意味等等,总之害是个感情色彩很强的词。

Renee's answer is good. 害(vt. / n.)as a verb originally meant 'harm, damage', and very lately in history extended to a new meaning with its usage: a causitive verb and the causitive construction pattern ---- 害 + sb. + verbal phrase (this pattern is called 兼语式 (telescopic construction; Cf English 'made her cry out loud), where 害 means ' make, cause'. Another verb with similar history is '累 [lei3]'. Dictionaries of both modern and ancient Chinese language do not give such definition. I think this is why you are confused. 兼语式 is a very common construction in Chinese, which can expression the meaning of 'order/demand, cause, result, etc'. The common (first) verbs used in this pattern can be 让,叫,使,命令 etc.
