How do you pronounce the ㅓ in Korean? Hello, I was wondering how to pronounce ㅓ in Korean. I ask this because the pronunciation is very hard for me to get down and different sources say it is pronounced differently. If you look at the IPA it says "ʌ" or "əː" which are both similar to the sound "uh", but whenever I hear it spoken on video or from a video about learning Korean it sounds like "ah" or "oh." Korean already has ㅏ and ㅗ though, and whenever I asked people in a Korean discord they said it is somewhere between "uh" and "oh" so could someone please help me out with this.

I had a Korean friend demonstrate the difference in person, so here's how I understand it: ㅓ as in "off" or "optical" (but not necessarily short). ㅗ as in "open", but keep it a single sound and not fall into a "u" sound like we native English speakers tend to do.

Refer to the vowel diagram http://blogfiles11.naver.net/data18/2007/1/18/10/%B8%F0%C0%BD%BB%EF%B0%A2%B5%B5_1-sorikgt.jpg 혀를 입안에서 중간 아래 위치에 놓고 입술을 'ㅏ'음을 낼 때보다 조금 적게 벌리면 됩니다. Locate tongue a little low from center position in the inside of mouth. Open lips a little less than 'ㅏ' sound.
