厕所，卫生间，洗手间 and 电梯 Hi, I understand that the three words (厕所，卫生间，洗手间) mean the same thing but I wanted to know which word(s) native speakers are more likely to choose to use depending on the situation. Scenario 1: If you are outside going about your day and suddenly need to use the restroom. Let's say you were walking in a 公园 or a 广场, which of the three words would you use? Scenario 2: You are at a restaurant 餐厅 or at your office 办公室. Which word would you use? Scenario 3: You are visiting a friend 朋友 or your next door neighbor 邻居 and would like to use their bathroom. Which word do you use? ---------------------------------------------- *I learned that 电梯 can mean both escalator or elevator but to me they're very different things... Is there a way of differentiating the two in Chinese?? Thank you.
