Can someone explain me what's the difference between these three words ? Loan, grant & scholarship
I was listening to a documentary about the best way or scheme to afford school fees and I am a bit confused.

A loan is money that your borrow (from a bank or school lending agency) that you pay back later with interest.
A grant is money that is awarded to a student to be used for tuition or expenses and does not need to be paid back.
A scholarship is similar to a grant but can also occur when a school provides free or reduced tuition for a student.

Hi, Achille!
A loan is “an amount of money that is given to someone for a period of time with a promise that it will be paid back : an amount of money that is borrowed”.
A grant is “an amount of money that is given to someone by a government, a company, etc., to be used for a particular purpose (such as scientific research)”.
A scholarship is “an amount of money that is given by a school, an organization, etc., to a student to help pay for the student's education”.
So, a scholarship can be a type of grant.

A loan is when I give you money to borrow. This has to be paid back to the person/organization you borrowed it from.
A grant is a monetary award given, generally for research purposes (but not always).
A scholarship is a monetary award given to athletes, students with high scores from previous institutions, or some other special qualification.

I think you perhaps chose the wrong answer. The important difference between grant and scholarship is that a scholarship is a payment to allow someone to study. A grant is for a specific purpose, and not usually for just study. As the others said, a grant would be for something like research, or a specific project.
