Sort, type and kind
Sort, type and kind all generally mean the same thing. They are words we use to refer to a group of people or things which share the same characteristics. We use these words very often when we describe things and we often find them in dictionary definitions: …
Kind of and sort of
Kind of and sort of are very common expressions in speaking. They soften other words and phrases so that they do not appear too direct or exact. Kind of is more common in American English. Sort of is more common in British English: …
in daily speak they are used interchangably its rare that anyone would argue you have used the wrong used

The terms kind and type are often confusing because these two words are used similarly in certain contexts and differently in other contexts. Often used as vague expressions to suggest that we think something is like something else. This is common because we either are not sure or because we do not want to be too specific and too direct.
Kind - can be referring to an order or specific breed or describing the good nature of a person.
Type - refers to a number of things of persons sharing a particular characteristic, or set of characteristics - this regards them as a group; precisely defined category.
Kind - noun, adjective
--"he is a kind and loving person."
--"she was really kind towards him."
--"what kind of dog is she?"
Type - noun, verb
--"cats are a type of mammal."
--"I have to type the whole thing by afternoon."
--"What is your blood type?"
Hope this helps. Excellent question! :)
